I see my role as empowering the next generation of storytellers to think deeply, write bravely and create what only they can.
I created Originate Stud.io to help young writers develop original voice, creative confidence and critical thinking through the practice of writing. Whether they're crafting stories, preparing college essays or exploring new ideas, I help students trust their own observations, strengthen their own thinking and create work that reflects who they are.
Workshops, coaching and creative tools for the next generation of storytellers.
Writing is about far more than grammar, structure or getting a good grade.
Writing teaches us to pay attention. To ask questions. To connect ideas. To imagine possibilities. It helps us discover what we think, what we believe and what we want to say.
Some of the most important learning happens during the creative process itself — while wrestling with a question, exploring an idea, revising a draft or discovering an unexpected connection.
That process develops skills that extend far beyond writing: curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, resilience and self-awareness.
Writing in the age of AI
Artificial intelligence is changing how we learn, work and create. Used thoughtfully, it can be a powerful tool for brainstorming, research, organization and feedback.
I work with students who want to write entirely without AI assistance. I also work with students who want to explore AI while keeping their ideas, language and creative work authentically their own.
The creative process asks us to do difficult and rewarding things: contemplate ideas, tolerate uncertainty, make mistakes, revise our thinking and discover our own voice.
Growth happens in the messy middle — and it's the kind of growth that stays with us, shaping how we think, create and solve problems long after the writing is finished.
Those experiences shape far more than a piece of writing. They develop creativity, judgment, resilience and independent thought.
My goal is to help students use it intentionally, in ways that support creativity without replacing the thinking, experimentation and discovery that make writing such a powerful tool for growth.
My "Why"
I've taught writing for more than a decade. I've watched students tune out the noise of the world and become fully immersed in worlds of their own making. I've seen the flash of discovery when a story finally clicks, and the pride that follows when a young writer realizes they've created something entirely their own.
My goal is to help young writers trust their own minds
and create what only they can.
In my workshops, we're doing more than learning to write. We're exploring what it means to be a creator — to generate an idea, a phrase or a scene that has never existed before. Students learn independently and alongside one another, discovering not only how to write, but how to think, question, imagine and communicate.
The seeds planted through that work often continue to grow long after a workshop ends. They reappear in classrooms, careers, relationships and countless moments that call for creativity, critical thinking and clear communication.
The experience is exhilarating, and its impact endures.
