Over the years, I've watched writers discover that originality begins with trust — in their own observations, ideas and voice.
An idea takes hold. A scene comes alive. A student realizes they have something worth saying. Those moments produce better writing — and they build confidence, judgment and independence of thought.
As a narrative strategist, fiction writer, writing coach and workshop leader, I've spent more than twenty years studying, practicing and teaching the art of storytelling. I've seen firsthand how storytelling builds understanding. That understanding leads people to learn something new, see themselves in a story and want to become part of it.
Over the course of my career, my work has taken me into healthcare systems, universities, nonprofits, businesses and community organizations. Across those settings, the challenge is often the same: identifying the ideas, values and aspirations at the heart of the work, uncovering the story beneath the surface and communicating both clearly.
I hold an MFA in Creative Writing, and my novel, The Promise of Water, is represented by literary agent Elizabeth Copps. My fiction has been recognized with national and international honors, including the Caledonia Novel Award, and my professional storytelling work has earned Anthem Awards, Communicator Awards and other national recognition.
Originate Stud.io is my way of staying connected to young writers and helping them write stories, develop college essays and strengthen their ability to think, create and communicate.
